Having a custom cake made at Disney World was one of the best decisions I ever made and made my daughter’s birthday extra special!

When we booked our yearly Disney trip during the same week as my daughter’s birthday, I instantly went into action. I love planning and had heard about having a custom cake made at Disney. After hours online, I finally found the official Disney cake chatter thread on DisBoards, which turned out to be a wealth of information. After hours of reading and looking at pictures of the amazing cakes others had posted, I decided to order the cake from the bakery at Grand Floridian Resort. I dealt directly with the pastry chef Pat, who was absolutely amazing. Her attention to detail was impressive, to say the least. She called me personally to discuss her vision and make sure I was happy with it!
Alice In Wonderland is my daughter’s favorite Disney character, so I knew that’s what I wanted. Pat went out of her way to create an amazing cake that couldn’t have been more perfect! To make the presentation even more special, we decided to have the cake “served” to her at the table. To do this, you have to dine at Grand Floridian Cafe, which can be as simple as ordering an appetizer and coffee (which is what we did). If you choose to not dine in, you can also pick it up from the bakery. That may have changed, so be sure to check the chatter thread. It’s the most up-to-date resource I know of.
Disney loves to help you celebrate!
My daughter is like me and very hard to surprise, so I had to enlist the help of my sister to pull it off. We told her that her aunt Lisa wanted to have tea at Grand Floridian, and we were going to meet her before having dinner. The bakery team went overboard and had the table beautifully decorated with balloons, flowers, and the cake. It was beautiful! The cake ended up costing just $78, which was shockingly affordable for everything they did. But, that’s what Disney does!
Disney loves to help you celebrate special occasions, so be sure to get a birthday or celebration pin from the front desk of your resort or the main gate of the park. And don’t be shy about reminding them either. I think everyone in the park knew it was my daughter’s “birthday WEEK”! We received free desserts, cards, buttons and more.
