First Two Weeks as a Disney College Program Intern!

First Week As A Disney Intern

Written by: Brittany Madden

Hi everyone!

I’m reporting live from WALT DISNEY WORLD! Two weeks ago I started my journey into the Disney College Program and it has been a whirlwind! In those weeks, I have gotten registered, went through casting, and moved into my apartment.

I found out I am working at Animal Kingdom, which is super exciting for several reasons! One is that the park always closes early. While this isn’t always the best for vacationers, it is AWESOME for us cast members! So that means no 2 A.M. shifts for me, yes! Plus, less people visit Animal Kingdom than compared to Magic Kingdom. This is nice, since I was kind of intimidated working with thousands and thousands of guests. Lastly, I am a huge animal lover, so I am at the perfect park.

So what am I doing at Animal Kingdom? I’m working at the Wildlife Express! For those who don’t know, the Wildlife Express is a train that travels between Harambe, Africa to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Although at first I was intimidated driving a train, I quickly grew to really enjoy it. Plus, everything that goes on at Rafiki’s Planet Watch is so interesting. I also like that this position will help me so much as a future educator, especially the whole talking in front of MASSES, ha!

In other news, I live with EIGHT other roommates! Originally I planned to live with three other ladies, but when we went to get an apartment, all the two bedrooms were gone! So, we decided to take a four bedroom at the second-newest apartment complex Chatham Square. We were all a little skeptical living with four other girls we didn’t know, but it has turned out to be incredible! I love them all so much and we all get along so well! We even call ourselves “The Great Eight”, ha!

When I’m not working, I try to take advantage of everything the DCP has to offer! I of course go to the parks all the time! I also try to go to as many events as possible, like grocery bingo and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. My favorites so far have been the Oktoberfest and Vegas Night events, both of which were literally in my apartment’s back yard, ha!!

Today I had the day off, which has been so nice…especially since I work the next seven days. Now, I plan to use my apartment’s pool and relax with my roomies. Expect an update in a couple of weeks! Have a magical day! =D
