My high-protein chicken dip recipe takes about 15 minutes to prepare. It’s creamy, smoky, flavorful, and loaded with protein!
If I’m being honest, I didn’t plan on posting this. When I got home from my walk yesterday, I was starving and wanted something quick. It turned out so good that I wanted to post it, and now this high-protein chicken dip recipe is a new family favorite!
Since I’ve been going through my menopause journey, incorporating more protein into my diet has been a game changer for keeping my weight in check. It also has additional benefits, especially for women’s hormone health. I went into more detail about that in this post if you’d like to read it.
Since my husband is overseas, I make single-serving meals like this a lot. If you’d like to double or triple the portion, you can change the number of servings in the recipe card below. When you hover over the serving number (in this case, one), the slider automatically adjusts the ingredient amounts for you. So, whether you need one serving or four, the function on the recipe card will adjust everything accordingly.
Easy Chicken Dip Recipe
Why We Love It
- It’s quick. Like, so quick! From start to finish, this chicken dip recipe took 10 minutes.
- High protein. The chicken, yogurt, and cheese pack a whopping 56 grams of protein.
- Versatile. You can change the flavors and stretch this in so many ways. I’ll share some ideas.
- It’s delish! Nothing else matters if it doesn’t taste good, right? This is totally delicious!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Five ingredients are all you need to whip up this easy chicken dip recipe!
- Chicken. I used rotisserie chicken, but my meal-prep chicken thighs would be perfect for this.
- Greek yogurt. This makes it nice and creamy while adding extra protein and keeping it light.
- Cheddar cheese. A good sharp cheddar adds a ton of flavor.
- Salsa. This smoky, garlicky, fire-roasted salsa also adds flavor.
- Scallions. The white part has a nice onion flavor, and the dark green top adds a pop of freshness.
I use Siggi’s Skyr in most of my recipes. It’s similar to Greek yogurt but thicker, creamier, and has a little more protein. The difference in protein between brands might surprise you, so if that matters to you, you might want to look at labels and compare.
Pro tip. When making simple recipes with minimal ingredients, choose ingredients that add flavor. For example, I use the Cabot Alpine Cheddar, which adds a sharp cheddar flavor. Something like a Colby just wouldn’t have the same effect. The salsa I’m using is a double-fired roasted salsa I’ve been obsessed with for months. It’s smoky and garlicky and eliminates the need for additional seasoning.

How to Make This High Protein Chicken Dip Recipe
This chicken dip recipe is so easy that I can hardly call it a recipe, but here’s how to make it.
- Prep the cooked chicken however you like. For this recipe, I like it in small dice.
- Add the chicken, scallions, salsa, cheese, and Greek yogurt to a microwave safe.
- Stir well and microwave for 30 seconds on high. Repeat that process until hot.
- Taste and adjust for salt and pepper, if desired.
- Enjoy immediately with your favorite chips, crackers, or veggies.
I used rotisserie chicken for this, but any cooked chicken will work. I usually make a batch of broiled chicken thighs and freeze them into meal-size portions. I LOVE these freezer-safe containers for food prep.
Helpful Tips
- I was able to make this chicken dip recipe in 10 minutes because I had already prepped the ingredients I use the most. The scallions were sliced, the cheese was shredded, and the chicken was chopped. Prepping ingredients each week allows you to throw together quick meals like this in minutes.
- In addition to having some ingredients prepped and ready to go, having a well-stocked pantry is essential for creating quick meals. Things like salsa, vinegar, mustard, and seasonings can help you combine meals with tons of flavor and easily change the flavors.
- This is perfect for meal prep! Add the dip to a microwave-safe container before microwaving it. When you’re ready to eat, microwave until hot, and enjoy. This is also good as a cold dip straight out of the refrigerator.
Variations
- This would be even better with black beans or corn, and they would add more volume.
- Add crushed red pepper, cayenne, or even your favorite hot sauce if you like things spicy.
- Smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, or cumin would all be delicious.
- Use whatever cheese you like. I’ve used smoked provolone before, and it’s delicious!
- Greek yogurt adds extra protein, but whipped cottage cheese would add even more.
- I like Greek yogurt’s tang, but sour cream is a great substitution.
- If you don’t like the smokiness of fire-roasted salsa, changing the salsa is an easy way to change the dip’s flavor completely.
Pro tip. Salsa is one of my favorite shortcut ingredients. It’s not just tomatoes but a combination of tomatoes, peppers, onions, and other spices. It adds flavor and eliminates the need for all of those other ingredients.
Storage
- Store in the refrigerator and consume within three to four days.
- I do not recommend freezing once heated.
How To Make This More Budget-Friendly
- As always, stocking up on the ingredients you use the most when they’re on sale is one of the easiest ways to save money. Since I’m obsessed with salsa, I bought three jars when they were marked down.
- My all-time favorite cheese is the Cabot Legacy collection. It goes buy-one-get-one-free at Publix every 6 to 8 weeks, and I buy six blocks. That sounds like a lot, but we blow through cheese in our house.
