Savory Cottage Cheese Bowl Ideas

Savory Cottage Cheese Bowls are a quick and easy meal that’s easy to customize, high in protein, and delicious!

Savory Cottage Cheese Bowl Ideas

One of the things that I love sharing on Instagram stories is my savory cottage cheese bowl ideas. The variations are endless, and coming up with different combinations is a lot of fun! I’ve been obsessed with cottage cheese long before it was trending. It’s savory, creamy, and one of the most versatile ingredients in your kitchen.

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein, but many people don’t know that it’s also a great source of gut-friendly probiotics. Some brands are better than others, so you’ll want to read the labels and look for “live and active cultures.” Good Culture, Kalona, and Nancy’s are known for being rich in probiotics and made with quality ingredients.

Because of its creaminess, cottage cheese is an excellent base for a cottage cheese bowl. However, it can also be used in dips, dressings, and sauces. It’s the base of the sauce in my high-protein chicken salad, and you can also use it for cooking. I just published a blog post with all of my tips.

I’m very passionate about food waste—I even wrote a blog post about it! One of the reasons I love cottage cheese bowls is that they’re a great way to use up small amounts of food, leftovers, and random ingredients in your kitchen. There are no rules. Have fun with it, and you can come up with some truly delicious combinations!

Savory Cottage Cheese Bowl Ideas

Good Culture

Start with cottage cheese you love! Good Culture Organic 4% Milkfat is my favorite. I also enjoy Daisy 4% Milkfat, especially for cooking, and I wrote a whole blog post about that. Not all cottage cheese is created equal. Some can be quite watery while others can be sweeter or saltier. Good Culture has small curds with a thick and creamy consistency, making it the perfect base for these savory cottage cheese bowls!

You’ll notice that there are no sweet combinations on this list, and that’s intentional. I often interchange cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. The protein amounts are similar, but they have very different flavor profiles. Cottage cheese can be quite salty, and while I love sweet and salty combinations, I find cottage cheese too salty for my taste, and I don’t think it pairs well with sweet flavors. If I’m craving something sweet, I’ll make my pumpkin dip, yogurt parfait, or cinnamon apple yogurt bowl and skip the cottage cheese. Notice how we never hear about cottage cheese ice cream anymore? That’s because it was gross, lol!

5-Minute Scrambled Eggs And Cottage Cheese

Scrambled Eggs And Cottage Cheese

  • Let’s start with a simple combination and the one I eat the most. Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and my favorite chicken sausage links. Defrost the sausage in the microwave while you gather ingredients. Browning the sausages isn’t necessary, but I like to cook them for about two minutes in a small nonstick skillet once they’re defrosted. While they’re browning, I whisk the eggs. Remove the sausages from the pan, then add the eggs and cook to your desired doneness. Serve with cottage cheese and enjoy this high-protein, super quick breakfast!

Leftover Pulled Pork Bowl

Leftover Pulled Pork Bowl

  • This is my favorite savory cottage cheese bowl on the list. I love it so much that I wrote a whole post about it! The textures of the chewy, smoky pulled pork, combined with creamy cottage cheese and veggies, are delicious. You can read the post and get the recipe here.

Savory Cottage Cheese Bowl With Ground Beef

  • This is another one that I have a whole blog post dedicated to. Any combination of sautéed ground meat and veggies will work here, but I particularly loved the sweetness the bell peppers added. This is loaded with protein! You can get the recipe for this bowl here.

Cucumber Cottage Cheese Bowl

  • This is the bowl you’ll find me eating most often in the summer. It’s light and refreshing while still providing a good amount of protein. I tossed cucumbers with olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and Aleppo pepper. Scallions or sprouts add extra crunch!

  • This combination is as delicious as it looks! It combines savory, crispy bacon, creamy cottage cheese, wilted spinach, scallions, and a hard-boiled egg for added protein. A generous amount of bagel seasoning adds a big pop of flavor and crunch!

Cottage Cheese And Veggies

  • This one is chaotic, but a great example of using random ingredients. I had a tiny amount of bell peppers, fresh spinach, avocado, and cooked sausage that needed to be used. It was savory, hearty, and healthy, and I loved the textures! Don’t overcomplicate these bowls. Put a layer of cottage cheese at the bottom, and add whatever you have on hand.

Leftover Ham Bowl

  • One of my favorite ways to use leftover ham is this super savory breakfast bowl! The combination of ham and cottage cheese is seriously delicious. Combined with the eggs, this provides a ton of protein. I added some tomatoes because they needed to be used up, and I appreciate a pop of freshness.

Creamy Tomato Cucumber Salad Bowl

  • This is another light and refreshing variation for summer. I combined a generous amount of cottage cheese with a simple cucumber and tomato salad with red onion, scallions, olive oil, vinegar, salt, and Aleppo pepper. The cottage cheese adds creaminess and perfectly contrasts with the fresh salad. So good!

  • Again, we’re using leftovers from the night before, along with some ingredients that I had prepared ahead of time, thanks to my weekly ingredient prep. I’m a sucker for any sausage and have made a similar variation of this more times than I can count. This is packed with protein and hearty, satisfying flavors and textures!

Kimchi Bowl With Creamy Cottage Cheese

Kimchi Bowl

  • Up until about a year ago, I couldn’t stand kimchi. But after reading about its excellent gut benefits, I was determined to like it. After trying what seems like every brand of kimchi I could find, the Seoul Vegan Original Kimchi from Target is my absolute favorite. It’s tangy without being too tangy and not spicy at all, which is my main issue with most brands. The eggs and cottage cheese mellow out the kimchi, complementing each other. I’ve been eating this one a lot lately for the good gut benefits!

And there you have it! I hope this list of savory cottage cheese bowl ideas inspires you. I’d love to hear your combinations!
